Varda Digital is the practice of Paul Robertson — a data and digital leader with four years of end-to-end delivery experience building enterprise data functions from the ground up.
I founded Varda Digital to bring the kind of data capability that larger organisations take for granted within reach of ambitious Scottish SMEs.
In my day role I built Harbro's entire data and digital function from scratch — migrating on-premise infrastructure to Microsoft Fabric, implementing Dynamics 365 CRM, designing information security policy, and leading a team of six. That breadth of experience across a single organisation is unusual, and it's what Varda Digital brings to every engagement.
My background is a little unconventional. I started as a Mathematics teacher before moving into data through a role at Ofgem, and have spent the last four years at the intersection of data engineering, business intelligence, and digital transformation. That journey makes me a better communicator — I've spent years explaining complex things clearly to people who didn't ask for the complexity.
I'm completing an MSc in Technology Management with the Open University this year, covering data management (DAMA), information security (ISO 27001), and technology strategy. I hold a First Class BSc and a degree in Mathematics from the University of Strathclyde.
Varda is an Old Norse word for a cairn — a stack of stones used as a landmark to guide travellers. That's what good data consultancy should do: mark the way clearly, so you can move forward with confidence.
